What your suggesting is otherwise known as a “color blind” approach — the hope that one can address or popularize solutions to our societal problems while simultaneously ignoring the layers of expressed and institutionalized prejudice. Not only are the biases of our society impossible to combat if not made clearly visible, but it is not and should never be the responsibility of politicians, activists, or journalists to make people feel better about holding those biases.
Prejudice is inherently irrational, and anything done in the name of pandering to that irrationality is a step backwards, not forwards.
